THE CONTRIBUTION OF NURSES TO EFFECTIVE PATIENT CARE AND RECOVERY

Abstract

Nurses are integral parts of the healthcare team and serve as a crucial part of the process of supporting effective care and recovery of patients. They are not only responsible for direct care but also education, emotional support, rehabilitation support, continuity of care and collaboration with other disciplines. To enhance the quality of care and foster patient-centered care, it is critical to appreciate the role nurses play in patient outcomes. The study was conducted to review and analyze the contribution of nurses to effective patient care and recovery based on available scientific literature. The articles were selected using electronic databases like PubMed, Google Scholar and MEDLINE from 2020 to 2026. Based on the inclusion criteria, 40 articles (15 review articles, 25 original research studies) were selected. The process of reviewing and synthesizing selected studies was done in a narrative way. The literature that was reviewed showed that nurses play an important role in the care of patients and their recovery related to their clinical intervention, rehabilitation assistance, patient education, therapeutic communication, emotional care and continuity of care. Therapeutic nurse-patient relationships were shown to enhance the psychological wellbeing, satisfaction and trust of the patient. Rehabilitation nursing interventions encouraged independence, functional recovery and enhanced quality of life. In conclusion, Nurses are an essential part of successful patient care and recovery. They work in all areas of health care – clinical, educational, psychological, rehabilitative, and organizational. Enhancing nursing skills, facilitating evidence-based practice and implementing collaborative healthcare models can further affect patient outcomes, quality of care, and healthcare system improvement.
