Corydalis govaniana var. swatensis (Kitam.) Jafri is a high-altitude Himalayan taxon with potential phytochemical and pharmacological importance. This literature-based study reviews the reported chemical constituents and biological properties of Corydalis govaniana and related Himalayan Corydalis species, with particular emphasis on isoquinoline alkaloids. Previous investigations have identified protopine, corlumine, bicuculline, isocorydine, and govaniadine from C. govaniana. Published experimental studies associate govaniadine with analgesic, anti-urease, antileishmanial, cytotoxic, apoptosis-related, antioxidant, hepatoprotective, and pharmacokinetic activities. Comparative evidence from other Himalayan Corydalis species further demonstrates solvent- and species-dependent variation in phytochemical composition and biological effects. However, specific information concerning the phytochemical profile and biological activity of C. govaniana var. swatensis remains limited. This review highlights the medicinal potential of the taxon, identifies major research gaps, and recommends authenticated collection, standardized extraction, chromatographic profiling, validated bioassays, toxicity assessment, and statistical analysis for future experimental studies. No primary experimental data were generated in the present work.Downloads
